5G download speeds in PH faster than WiFi – Opensignal

A recent data from Opensignal bared that Filipino mobile users with access to 5G network have enjoyed faster download speeds compared to when they are connected to WiFi – 5.3 times better, to be exact.

Opensignal said from March 1 to May 29, the 5G network in the Philippines tallied an average download speeds of 138.6 Mbps, faster than WiFi’s 26.3 Mbps and 4G’s 15.8 Mbps.

“The arrival of 5G changes the balance between cellular and WiFi connectivity – as 5G cellular connections are typically faster than on WiFi, whereas WiFi has the advantage when cellular users are connected to 4G,” Opensignal said in its June 30 report.

WiFi connection, on the other hand, recorded faster upload speeds, delivering 14.4 Mbps on average, while 5G and 4G tallied at 12.8 Mbps and 4.1 Mbps, respectively.

5G is also the better connectivity option for multiplayer gaming and video streaming in the Philippines, Opensignal noted.

The firm added, however, that while “WiFi is no longer always superior to cellular” with 5G in the picture, the former remains important in backing up files and downloading larger apps.
