Ayala-led Globe Telecom said it’s on track to establish more towers this year as it targets to build 1,700 cell sites, 21 percent more than the 1,407 erected in 2021.
The telco furthered that its continuous aggressive expansion and modernization has so far resulted in a 12,194-tower count. For the first three months of the year, it fired 252 cell sites all over the Philippines.
“We want as many Filipinos to enjoy the benefits of mobile technology and have access to the internet, even in far-flung areas. This way, more people can enjoy the digital solutions that are accessible through our network and help uplift the lives of many,” said Globe president and chief executive officer Ernest Cu.
Globe is also focused on partnering with tower companies (towerco) to continue its network expansion and services enhancement.
For 2022, the firm earmarked P89 billion capex for new cell sites, tower upgrades, 5G rollout, and fiber ramp up.
