Elon Musk-owned companies that will soon operate in the Philippines might build a base in Bataan following its officials’ successful talks with The Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB).
“The FAB has confirmed they had a productive series of meetings with SpaceX and Starlink officials over the past few months,” said AFAB administrator Emmanuel D. Pineda.
“With the recent enactment of Republic Act No. 11659 or An Act Amending Commonwealth Act No. 146 otherwise known as the Public Service Act liberalizing foreign ownership of telecom services, SpaceX and Starlink have now been given the option to move forward with the regulatory process, incorporate and draw up an operational plan,” he said.
Pineda furthered that SpaceX officials target to complete the process within the year.
The anticipated launch of SpaceX and Starlink in the country is expected to bring Filipinos – especially those residing in remote areas – faster and more reliable broadband speed and connectivity, more affordable internet rates for consumers, and more capacity for telecommunications services.
