PT&T taps Singapore’s Kacific to bring ”high-speed, affordable” satellite internet

Listed telecommunications company Philippine Telegraph & Telephone Corp. (PT&T) has partnered with Singapore-based broadband satellite firm Kacific Broadband Satellites Ltd. for “high-speed” satellite internet at a “more economical” cost.

PT&T offers very small aperture terminal (VSAT), a small-sized, two-way earth station that transmits and receives data from satellites.

According to PT&T, they’re looking to provide services to unserved and underserved areas.

“As the new normal calls for people to follow social distancing and lockdown protocols, the need for reliable internet that is efficient and sustainable has never been timelier and more important, especially in the remote areas,” said PT&T senior vice president for sales Ella Mae Ortega.

Meanwhile, Kacific said that the partnership with PT&T will further strengthen their position “as a provider who can seamlessly connect rural enterprise, government, and residential customers.”

“We will follow a common goal to deliver affordable internet connectivity nationwide and join the rally in driving digital transformation in the country,” said Brandon Seir, Kacific chief commercial officer.

PT&T is yet to disclose its timeline of implementation for its VSAT offering.
