Telecommunications Connectivity Inc. (TCI), the joint venture of the country’s major telco players — Globe, Smart-PLDT, and DITO — assured that it’s “actively working” to address the challenges in the implementation of mobile number portability (MNP) in the country.
In a statement, the TCI said that birth pains of the MNP rollout were expected, especially since it’s still in its early stages.
Among the technical issues and “roadblocks” encountered include port out rejections, unique subscriber code generation, enabling portability of virtual number operators, and airtime loading.
The group said that the issues have been resolved immediately, and that they have been on the lookout to deal with new obstacles.
The MNP took effect on September 30 this year under Republic Act No. 11202, also known as the Mobile Number Portability Act, that allows mobile users in the Philippines to switch network providers while maintaining the same mobile number.
Last October 20, TCI general manager Melanie Manuel said that there were more than 1,000 users who have successfully ported to their new networks.
