DITO Telecommunity plans to build 166 cell sites in Bangsamoro region

China-backed DITO Telecommunity is planning to establish at least 166 cell sites in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), a government official bared.

Bangsamoro Transportation and Communications Minister Dickson Hermoso said that DITO has began constructing some of the cell sites, adding that they are ready to support DITO’s projects “that would result in a faster and more economical, reliable and secure flow of information in the BARMM.”

The official underscored that there remains to be a connectivity problem in their region, particularly in Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

Bangsamoro Telecommunications Commission Officer-in-Charge Engr. Omar Marzoc, meanwhile, said that they will be able to assist DITO in securing permits and licenses.

“We might be able to hasten their intention to build more towers and investment in the BARMM,” he added.

DITO is also looking into using submarine cables to bring better telco services in the said island provinces.
